Philippe Schmitter is professor of political science in the European University Institute, Florence and the Central European University, Budapest. A world famous name, a political scientist that has transformed the understanding of a series of political phenomena like the European corporatist model of interest representation, transition from authoritarian rules in South Europe, Latin America and the post-communist countries and the problems of the consolidation of the democratic political regimes there, as well as of the emerging Euro-polity. Professor Schmitter talks about the often-neglected impact of EU on the “practice of
democracy” in its member-states.
