The Centre for Liberal Strategies, Open Society Institute
– Sofia and The Red House Centre for Culture and Debate present:
Media and the Presidential
Pre-election Race
A debate in three parts:
Part I: “The President as a Washing
Powder”, or how the political looks like a set of advertising
strategies. We will comment on how the presidential candidates
were 'invented' by their PR offices and how the citizens used
visual replicas and anonymous graffiti in order to give a
final touch to their images. In short, we will analyse how
media was convincing us to 'buy' a president and will come
closer to the answer why we decided to buy 'a simple washing
powder”
With the participation of: Todor Hristov
(Sofia University) and Borislav Kandov (Capital
Weekly)
Moderator: Milla Mineva
Part II: “Blogs as a Political Instrument”,
in which we will discuss a unique feature of the last presidential
election campaign, namely the emergence of the Bulgarian political
blogs. About Internet as a political media and about the specificities
of communication and propahanda in Internet.
With the participation of: Julian Popov (education
expert and a renowned political blogger) and Antonia
Vlaykova (Indymedia) and Komitata
& Stoycho (www.komitata.blogspot.com)
Moderator: Orlin Spassov
Part III: “Media in the Mirror of
the Elections”, in which we will talk about how objective
or biased were the main electronic media during the last presidential
elections. What conception of 'public interest' did they represent,
and how did they take part in the elections.
With the participation of: Georgi Lozanov
(media expert) and Petya Vladimirova (journalist,
Dnevnik Daily)
Moderator: Boyan Znepolski
