International Internet Conference NET_USER_2
Net_User_2 is the second edition of the international and interdisciplinary conference in Bulgaria, exploring the process of collaboration between new trends in art, technologies and business in the Internet.
Net_User_2 building on the successful platform of the first event, is focusing on current issues of Internet activities like: Open Source Technologies and Streaming Media in Art and Culture.
Net_User_2 will present how net artists, theoreticians, developers, designers, journalists, media networks, Internet companies and general web users combine the artistic and the commercial side of Internet projects.
Net_User_2 mission is to initiate collaboration and future business associations between all participants and to provoke public interest in the new media in Bulgaria.
Net_User_2 will explore the various points of view of the attendees from Bulgaria, Germany, Great Britain, Austria and the Netherlands. They will discuss the aesthetic, social and economic issues of sundry questions provoked by the global network.
The project is organised by InterSpace Media Art Center, Sofia (www.i-space.org) in collaboration with The Red House Centre for Culture and Debate, Sofia (www.redhouse-sofia.org) and Orbitel - The Next Generation of Telecom, Sofia (www.orbitel.bg), and the support of: Swiss Cultural Programme in Bulgaria, Sofia City Art Gallery, British Council Bulgaria, Bootlab Berlin/DE.
And media partners: Cult.bg Server for Art and Culture, Dnevnik Online, Egoist and AZ magazines, *bpm zone for hyperculture, WebDevMagazine, University radio Alma Mater.
Net User 2 conference in Sofia will be held in the framework of exStream a two-year collaborative project between five new media organizations in Europe, which is supported by Culture 2000 Programme of EU.
Background
In October 2001 InterSpace organized the first edition of the international conference Net User.
As a pilot project the main aim of the event was to establish a platform that responds to current issues of Internet activities in both local and European context. In the conference took part 40 professionals from Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Finland and Yugoslavia. Net User 01 provoked a great public interest and during the four-day program more than 400 people attended the event.
During the conference various aesthetic, social and economic issues of current issues provoked by the global network were presented, analyzed and discussed. The conference established a network of participants who continue discussions on the project website: www.netuser.cc
The second edition of the conference will follow the successful platform of the pilot event but will focus to current issues of Internet activities like: open source technologies and streaming media in art and culture.
