MANAGING PERFORMING ARTS ACROSS EUROPE
(seminar & working placements)

OBJECTIVES
The seminar aims to respond to the need for acquiring and applying practical management skills to daily activities of artists and managers working on independent projects, or artistic groups working on a project base. The seminar is focused on assisting European dimension and partnership of independent artistic projects, performing arts groups and artistic projects developed with groups at risk, to achieve effective management and sustainability.
- The seminar
The seminar aims to develop basic skills for understanding and improving team working, formulation of mission and aims, implementation of strategy, achieving sustainability, running projects, human recourses management, etc.
It also introduces contemporary dimensions of the internationalisation in the performing arts such as communication, partnership, putting into context, networking, fund-raising opportunities for European projects, etc.
Additionally, it aims to present some typical case studies and practices introduced by speakers & practitioners from the region and all over Europe.
The seminar will be moderated by Steve Austen – founder and permanent fellow of the Felix Meritis Foundation, Amsterdam. The speakers and case study presenters will be different European professionals in the field of performing arts and cultural management.
The seminar will rely on active participation of every participant, their ability to share their own professional experience and responsibility in team working.
- The working placements
Up to 8 weeks long placements at artistic organisations in Europe will be offered to a limited number of participants.

The working placements will be co-organised with Gulliver’s Connect programme of the Felix Meritis Foundation – Amsterdam.
TARGET GROUPS
The project targets young and up-coming art managers, project co-ordinators and leaders of independently working artistic initiatives & projects in the field of performing arts (in a wider sense) who already have some professional experience.
THE REGION
Candidates from Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia & Montenegro and Turkey will be considered for participation in the seminar.
SELECTING PROCEDURE
The seminar will be held in English. The applicants should have good spoken English in order to participate actively in the training process.
The participants will be selected by the organisers on the basis on their motivation and professional interest.
SELECTING CRITERIA
- professional experience & its connection to the topics of the seminar
- motivation for participating in the seminar at the particular stage of the applicant’s career.
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
Between 18 and 22 participants will be selected for the seminar.
Due to the limited number of places, late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
The applicants selected for participation will be notified by May 2 (Friday), 2003.
SCHOLARSHIPS
A number of scholarships are available for participants in the seminar. If you want to be considered, please tick the appropriate box in the application form.
