Literary Serial and Goethe-Institut present:

Joint Text-performance of Enthusiasten

Enthusiasten:

Jochen Schmidt

“Showing remarkable timing I was born on 9.11.1970 in East-Berlin, so this day became of special importance for our nation. In my childhood I
was shifted as a wrestler, a weight-lifter, a swimmer, a mathematician, but never as a football-player, since football was too extensive for the GDR sports-system (11 players and only 1 possible gold-medal…) Neither in school we played football, because only teamsports for girls and boys where allowed, so we had to play some
sort of hockey with a rubber-ring and a stick. how could I nevertheless have become such a good player as we had only concrete-pitches in our neighbourhood, like in Malta, and that was the
hardest school. I studied romane and slavian languages and since it's impossible to
make a living of philology or other serious matters, I had to write books. From 1999 on I am reading weekly new stories in my lesebuhne
(reading-show) Chaussee der enthusiasten (www.enthusiasten.de)”
