Synopsis of the pieces:
Our fiance
The young widow Henrieta is crashing an evening party. She
is anticipating Mr D’Neriz, seriously hoping that he would
propose to her.
Her cousin Valentine arrives, hurrying to share her love secret
from the previous party. Being in love and excited, she mentions
the name of the same gentleman.
Through the window
“My wife is very beautiful and horribly jealous. She is jealous
even of our servant Rosa”, claims Hector.
Hmmm. The wife kicks out the servant and goes to her mother.
One evening a strange woman rings on the door of the lonely
Hector.
Love and piano
How to make your way in the capital? Very simple – if you
are a young man from the province with a fine physique, the
only thing you have to do is find the address of a famous
actress and to present yourself to her. Surely, she will get
attracted to you. But if you are a young girl from a rich
family and you want to make a breakthrough in art, you have
to take lessons from a renowned professor, minding the price
is not too high. The important thing in both cases is that
the address and names are very correct, otherwise big mistakes
and troubles happen.
More information about the author:
Georges Feydeau, (December 8, 1862 - June 5, 1921) was a French
playwright of the era known as La Belle Epoque. He was known
for his many lively farces. Though critics at the time dismissed
Feydeau's works as light entertainment, he is now recognized
as one of the great French playwrights of his era. Some have
even gone so far as to refer to him as the "Bach of his
form." His plays are seen today as precursors to Surrealist
and Dada theatre, and the Theatre of the Absurd. His plays
have been continuously revived and are still widely performed
today.
Despite being a phenomenally successful playwright, his propensity
for high living (he had a table permanently reserved for him
at Maxim's), gambling and the failure of his marriage were
to lead to financial difficulties.
During the winter of 1918 Feydeau contracted syphilis and
slowly descended into madness in the remaining years of his
life. He is buried in Cimetiere de Montmartre, in Paris.
