Sound and Relation – Sofia 07
Days of new music

A festival that seeks for the connection of contemporary music to other arts. A presentation of new trends in artistic exploration of the being of sound. Intriguing series of concerts, debates and demonstrations, presented and performed by first-class musicians. A powerful set of Bulgarian premieres focusing on the work of the pioneers in the world music of the late decade of the 20th and the first years of the 21st century and world premieres of contemporary Bulgarian music. In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, AKM – Vienna, Radio France International – Sofia, Altera – Sofia and the Counterpoint programme of the Hristo Botev station, Bulgarian National Radio.



The first edition of "Sound and Relation" Days of the New Music, will be held at the Red House Centre for Culture and Debate - Sofia, Bulgaria in October/November 2007. The days will feature many well-respected authors from different countries and will present current trends in contemporary music and new ways of exploring the relation between music and other arts.

Some of the festival highlights are: the special concert with contemporary Austrian music by Dieter Kaufmann, Martin Lichtfuss, Rene Staar, Wladimir Panchev, Norbert Sterk and Gerald Resch in cooperation with AKM - Austria. Jeffrey Ryan's quartet, written for the famous Arditti ensemble will receive its Bulgarian premiere among other Bulgarian premieres of pieces by leading composers such as the "fathers" of minimalist music Tom Johnson, John Corigliano, Philip Glass or works by Arvo Paert and Luciano Berio.

"Sound and Relation" will host also the world premieres of music by notable Bulgarian composers of the older and younger generations, such as Vassil Kazandjiev new Trio for clarinet, cello and piano and works by Rumen Baljozov, Bojidar Spassov, Wladimir Pantchev, Gheorghi Arnaoudov, Petar Doundakov, Gueorgui Harizanov, Alexandra Fol and Konstantin Ilievski.
