The HTMlles Festival is an ongoing project of StudioXX women’s digital resource centre in Montreal, in operation since 1995.

The HTMlles Festival, started as an annual event focused on the positioning of women in cyberspace, has now evolved to become an international biennial and touring project - a meeting place for women and feminists working in creative digital mediums - creating an international network for new media artists.

Through a series of focused encounters, interactive workshops, performances and short exhibitions, a group of traveling Canadian artists and their works will encounter curators, gallerists, cultural operators, local artists and publics in Belgrade, Sofia and Istanbul with the goal of gaining new perspectives and fostering dialog and collaborations amongst individuals, sharing and demystifying different cultures, interests and experiences.

StudioXX and the HTMlles Festival receive support from numerous governmental and private bodies including : The Canada Council for the Arts, Le Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec, The Canadian Embassy in Turkey, .

+ ORAL HISTORIES

+Chantal Dumas + Valerie Walker [Canada]



The ORAL HISTORIES project is linked to the oldest form of communication, and to one of the most modern. The goal of the project is to collect stories which relate women’s relations to tyechnology through their personal experiences. Chantal Dumas will collect local histories with the help of a multigenerational group of local participants.

A series of Internet games in which participants freely distribute material and nonmaterial goods, building a society that undergoes dynamic changes. Distributive justice is not only a central issue of moral and political philosophy, but also an object of common-sense moral reasoning.

The Lies Project is a web-based work that explores the act of lying as currency and tool in the transactions and constructions of our culture. The Project invites viewers to lie and to intervene in others’ lying by altering the quality and content of their lies.

FLATLANDIA is a web-art project that uses a taxonomic approach for finding and naming examples of ‘image spaces’ in cities. Artist Michelle Teran will bring particiapnts on an exploratory walk and demonstarte how information for FALTLANDIA is bring collected, organized and linked together within a searchable database system.

+ THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERATOR

The 20th Century had its invisible workforce : telephone opeartors. Not just « voices with a smaile », they were the shooting stars in a universe of infinite progress. They are revealed in this unique 1 hour montage crafted from 150 rarely seen industrial, publicity and scientific management films produced in North America between 1903 and 1989.

+ LINE: initiative + movement
LINE is an independent initiative created by curator Elena Veljanovska artist/curator Toni Dimitrov, art historian Jelena Trajkoska and artist Tino Sotiriovsky.
Through the coordination of collaborations between artists from international and domestic scenes, Line assists in deepening relationships thus working to overcome the current grim situation on the local cultural scene. One of Line’s main initiatives is the reanimation of the Macedonian clubbing scene, placing special attention on experiments in music.

Elena is an independent curator from Skopje working in collaboration with the Upgrade! Skopje and her own organization, LINE [initiative + movement]. Elena is visiting from the Upgrade! Skopje to present an overview of the Skopje technology art scene in regards to new trends and to women working with technology.

+ After the feminism (120 min)[BG]
The selection shows video art made by Bulgarian female artists during last 10 years. Analytically, ironically, sarcastically, poetically and radically the works show wider spectrum of women problems and gropings in the post feminist situation.

Adelina Popnedeleva - born 1956 in Sofia. 1988 - Master degree from National Academy of Art, Sofia. Since 2005 in procedure of PH.D. dissertation at National Academy of Art, Sofia. Working in the domain of installations, performance, video art, photography, painting.

XS LABS is a design and research studio which develops technological artifacts that are extra soft and react in weird ways to the body and environments.
Joanna Berzowska will present wearable electronics and give an introduction to the techniques of building « soft switches »

BIOTEKNICA is an ongoing collaborative art/research project investigating the ethics and aesthetics at the intersection of art and the biological sciences.
Jennifer Willet will present Bioteknica’s most recent developments in the laboratory.

+Veronika Tzekova[BG]
Veronika Tzekova graduated with an MFA from the Dutch Art Institute (DAI), and hols a postgraduate degree in interdisciplinary research in visual arts and media, Enschede, The Netherlands. In 2004/2005 she took part in the Bauhaus Kolleg VI, “Transnational Spaces”, postgraduate program, Dessau, Germany, where she developped EuroMosque, a conceptual framework and project idea for re/constructing new European appearances.

+ Yofka [Bulgaria]
Yofka works in digital graphics, animation and video. She takes a focus on using Free and Open Source Software in her technical work, making her a pioneer in the use and development of these sustainable technologies. Yofka will discuss her art work, use of technology and present a live visual performance.

+ THE UPGRADE! Sofia + THE UPGRADE! Skopje
The Upgrade! is a monthly forum for those interested in new art and technology to gather with a focus on building networking and diffusion capabilities within local and international communities and allowing the youngest generation of artist a chance for professional development. As nodes of the global Upgrade ! network, Upgrade ! Skopje and Upgrade! Sofia collaborate for this event presenting women, art and technology.

+ Leda Ekimova (Bulgaria) | organizer and artist from Sofia working in collaboration with the Eskimo group will present a performance in the gallery and in the street. An important local organizer, Leda work to bring together young local artists and to create the most active creative environment.

+ Nina Boyanova (Bulgaria) | Nina is a local filmmaker, videographer and director. She will present a live performance in collaboration Armando.

+ RADIO.cult [Bulgaria]
Radio.Cult is an on-line radio project started in 2003 presenting young artists, journalist, Bulgarian musicians, and DJs. It provides a platform to exchange ideas and present Bulgarian culture. Radio Cult represents an alternative to regulated media in Bulgaria and helps devellop national identity especially in the process of joining the European Union.

CULT.BG Foundation covers, makes publicity for and develops the practices and policies in the area of contemporary art and culture. It is an active participant in the ongoing processes, but also to a hub for other organizations and individuals. Through Cult.bg Server for Art and Culture and the Fund for Support of Emerging Artists, it nourishes a creative and fruitful environment for artistic development, sharing ideas and experience, setting up partnerships and broadening the debate on cultural policy.
