Instituto Cervantes Sofia presents:
Spanish Jazz with German Diaz
Valladolid,1978. He starts his musical theory studies at the
conservatory and guitar at a private school. He studies Classical
Philology and post grade as a University Specialist in Tradition
at the University of Valladolid.
He studies Hurdy-Gurdy with Laurent Tixier, Rafael Martin,
Isabelle Pignol, Gilles Chabenat, Patrick Bouffard, Nigel
Eaton, Valentin Clastrier, Pascal Leffeuvre and Mathias Loibner
at Coordinated Seminars of AIZ (Hurdy-Gurdy Iberian Asociation).
He studies percussion with Pedro Estevan and Dimitri Psonis
at Don Juan de Borbon Foundation International Music Course,
and Renaissance Music at Ministriles Studio, given by F. Rubio,
J. Argelaga, S. Galduf, F: Sanchez, P. Esteban and D. Psonis.
He assists to Masterclasses with Pascal Lefeuvre, Isabelle
Pignol and Laurence Bourdin.
He has helped as a performer with “Teatro del Azar” in Medieval
Markets, gives zanfona lessons in different Iberian Peninsula
places (such as “Cursos musicais do conservatorio de musica
tradicional e folque e da foliada de Lalin). He has worked
for many traditional and quite a different style musicians
as Nuevo Mester de Juglaria, Joaquin Diaz,Maria Slagado, La
Carraca, Tradere, Cesar Cuenca, Toni Xucla, Salmantice, Brenga
Astur, Fratelli Mancuso, laio, Baldo Martinez, Cuarteto Acustico...)
and cooperates with Maria Salgado in her last recording. He
ussually helps LAIO.
He takes part of Baldo Martinez Cuarteto Acustico and of
Sinfonia Quartet ( four hurdy-gurdy) conducted by Mr. Pascal
Lefeuvre.
He works for castillian traditional music in TRIO GERMAN
DIAZ, with Eugenio Rodriguez and Roberto Gonzalez.
He is a member of The Viellistic Orquestra, a French rare
and genuine hurdy-gurdy orquestra, in which the best hurdy-gurdy
players in the World make a very different performance from
anything heard before.
He works, as European Groups style, for traditional music
with a very particular staff, in NUKE TRIO, (bass clarinet,
guitar and zanfona) with pablo Pascual and Pedro Pascual.
He has created, with Cesar Diez and Diego Martin, an innovating
trio, in which zanfona starts demonstrating an own voice in
jazz and conemporary music, called RAO TRIO. He also belongs
to LA Parrus Dixie Band, an amusing group which shows jazz
repertory of 30?s.
He developes new expressions of zanfona in DUO DE FUEGO,
with well known french zanfona player Pascal lefeuvre.
His last and rather original project, DUO GORKA HERMOSA
– GERMAN DIAZ, introduces zanfona in the particular tango
universe, beside an exceptional accordion player, Gorka Hermosa.
As a composer, is remarcable his work in the Original Sound
Track for “LA NAVE TEATRO” in Yes, pudo ser...? a text from
Margueritte Duras, and for Mucho ruido y pocas nueces (W.
Shakespeare), conducted by Lembit Peterson.
He has played, been a part of these groups and many others,
around Spain, France, Algeria, Ireland, Germany, Portugal...
In 1999 he was distinguished with Racimo de Oro award, for
his outstanding work in compilation and spreading of traditional
music.
In 2003 his first record as a soloist has appeared (DRO
West), named “Claudia?s sweater” in which important musicians
as Baldo Martinez, David Herrington and Wafir Sheik have cooperated.
