Burma – a country under military dictatorship, in
which genocide is a daily routine. Banished from their birthplaces,
victims of violence, arsons and murders committed by the military
forces, a group of native people initiated unique legal proceedings
in an American court.
The screening of the film about Burma and the debate on the
Bulgarian analogies on the theme happened in the week, when
the Supreme Council of Ecology Experts of the Ministry of
Ecology approved the use of cyanides again – the poisonous
aggregations used in the extraction of gold. This is green
light for the Bulgarian filial firm of the Canadian company
“Dundy Precious Metals” to increase the manufacture of gold-copper
ore in the mine up to 3 million tonnes per year, in spite
of the protests of the ecological organization “Bulgaria without
Cyanides” and under the approving exclamations of an initiative
committee of citizens in the region of Chelopech, supporting
the project.
Four representatives of Coalition “Bulgaria without Cyanides”
were arrested during the course of the protest. By the end
of the month the minister of ecology will take a final decision.
