On Activism - Faces and Voices From the Bulgarian Scene (documentary, concept: Joanne Richardson, Galina Dimitrova, and Nicola Zambelli, camera and montage: Nicola Zambelli, interviews: Galina Dimitrova, 63 min., 2008)

premiere

"Activism" is a word that describes people and organisations' actions within the civil society, asking or trying to achieve changes in the society, to promote new ideas, and to protest when something bad is going to happen for the social context they live in. Usually, "activists" are independent groups or organisations, who try to separate themselves from the official powers and parties, and promote autonomous actions and activities. On Activism - Faces and Voices From the Bulgarian Scene is the second episode of a research documentary filmed in November 2007 (the first episode regarding Romania), and contains interviews made with different groups and organisations that are active in the recent years. The film presents their activist actions done in different ways, with different strategies and purposes - in the field of civil society, with the intention to raise a debate between them and - hopefully - with the viewers of such a video. This movie doesn't pretend to present a "geographical map" of the activist scene in Bulgaria rather to go deeper into the personal motive of those people who do activist actions, at the same time to raise questions about the level of present time democratic situation in the country, hoping to be able to show different possibilities of action from the very protagonists of the world of "activism".

The film was made in the framework of "Common places" - a collaborative project between D Ģedia (Romania) and InterSpace (Bulgaria) supported by the European Cultural Foundation.
